Marcel Barbeau

Marcel Barbeau (b. 1925 Montreal QC, d. 2016 Montreal QC) was a Canadian painter, printmaker, sculptor, filmmaker, and performance artist. Contributing to the contemporary Canadian art movement, Barbeau was primarily known for his abstracted geometric style. He attended the École du Meuble from 1944 to 1947 in Montreal. Barbeau’s works have been exhibited throughout Canada and internationally including East Hampton Gallery, New York NY (1965, 1966, 1967); Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto ON (1955, 1966, 1967, 1994); Museum of Modern Art, New York NY (1965); and the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg MB (1969, 1973, 1978, 1979, 1991, 1992, 2009).
