Description
Grey stone carving of an Inuk man cutting up a seal. The man is straddled over the seal, one leg bent on either side, facing the end flippers. Man is carved to wear hooded parka, with the hood up, pants, and boots. Face is carved with line for hairline, two round eyes with whites and pupil, a nose, and straight mouth. Hands are fists, no finger details, with proper right hand holding a knife and cutting and other hand on the seal. Seal has two eyes lightly carved into surface. Base around the seal where man crouches. Bottom of base has name and numbers.
Inscribed on the bottom as Ainaliapik with numbers that appear to be E 1551. The artist could be the known sculpture artist Ittuq Ainaliapik Ainalik from Ivujivik, Quebec. However, this artist's associated disk number has been listed as E9-989, so identification is uncertain.
