Description

One half of a matching set of wooden bookends. The bookend is in an L shape, both the vertical and horizontal plank are have beveled edges and they are tapered inwards, the vertical plank more so, creating an oval shape at the top. The grain of the wood is highly visible through the polish. At the centre of the horizontal plank a decorative fish has been added for embellishment. The fish is pictured in profile, with the tail anchored against the vertical plank, curved inwards to the body at a 90 degree angle. It sits on an irregular rectangle shape attached to the horizontal base, perhaps representing the water below. The snout of the fish is angled downwards to the base. The gills and fins have been carved into the wood to add detail  and an eye is represented with a translucent stone inset in the wood. A metal wire extends from the mouth of the fish over its body and into the top of the vertical plank to represent the line it has been caught on. The bottom of the horizontal plank is lined with a beige coloured leather.
