Block, Wood

Artifact

Accession Number:
2015.1.2a
Description
There are two distinct sections of this wood printing block. The top, which has the word "FAIR" written backwards, is longer than the bottom portion of the block which has a slightly crooked red square moving beyond the base of the block. If the block was stood up with the word standing upright on top, the length would be 52cm. The top and bottom pieces are separated by a piece of wood 11.8cm wide. The letters on the top are red and come up out of the wood in carved relief. The area around the letters as well as the square at the bottom of the block is a dark burgundy color. This color fades as it moves farther away from the square and the four letters. There is a label stuck to the bottom of the wood block (where the square is) with the previous temporary accession number on it. On the back of the wood block there are strips of paper glued to the wood, and they cover the entire back. There is masking tape on the back with "DAG 347" written on it in red marker. There is also pencil writing on the back which says "T33-"
