Description
Rectangular relief carved wood printing block. Front of block is a geometric design, left side has a 1.0cm bevelled edge. Surface of block is coloured in gradient starting out dark red at the top, transitioning to orange, then to yellow and finally to green at the bottom. Red and orange take one third, yellow one third and green one third. In the top section is a slightly downwards sloping rectangle on a diagonal, measuring 30.5cm by 11.4cm. 2.5cm below the rectangle and 2.5 cm from the left edge is a circle measuring 19.5cm in diameter. The bottom has an 8.4cm section missing in the circle's bottom and top of a second rectangle indent. Second rectangle is also on a slight diagonal but with an upwards slope. Bottom right corner of second rectangle is 3.4 cm from the right edge and 6cm from the bottom edge. In every cut out there are circular indentations and scrapes. Back: back of block is a text block, possibly a recycled piece from another printing block. It is a mixture of red, yellow, and green colours clearly visible at the top in the middle and along the bottom edge and bottom left corner. Yellow is mostly visible around the letter cutouts, with green mainly visible along the left edge above the red. All colours however have been slightly blended. There are 6 letters clearly cutout and two incomplete letters, arranged in two rows length wise. The top row consists of "P R I" and an incomplete letter. Each letter has been cut out leaving a column like bumpy texture with each letter. The incomplete letters have small recatangular pieces of wood nailed inside. The second row of letters have the same detailing but the letters are "A L B" and an incomplete letter. All letters are backwards. Each row of letters are approximately 12.7cm wide. All cut outs have indentations and scrapes as part of the process.Materials
