Description
**Picture Block** First block in a four part series. Possibly tongue and groove rectangular wood block with an attached zinc plate. There is an arc/curve carved out piece 25cm long (horizontal) and curving to a height of approximately 2.5cm. Front: Block has been stained blue and is mostly recessed with the image detail appearing relief on the zinc plate. Starting in the top left corner, is the image of a horse's head occupying a space 5.7cm wide by 6.5cm long. Moving down 1cm is the image of a ferris wheel with 7 cars occupying an area 6.1cm wide by 8cm long. Below and to the right of the ferris wheel is the detailed image of a fair. Directly below the ferris wheel is a carousel and crowd measuring 11.1cm wide by 7.7cm long. Moving to the right across the bottom (following the arc/curve) are several other anonymous buildings with 8 flags on 4 buildings at the top of the image . This scene covers approximately 26cm wide by 12cm long (with some overlap of the carousel). Sides/Back: Plain wood with dark ink stains in the wood grain. "No 48" stamped in purple ink in the back center of the block. Residual stain near front and outer edges (back).
