Description
*Picture Block* First block is in a 3 part (blue, red, yellow) series. It is a rectangular tongue and groove wood block. Front: Stained dark blue. Block is mostly relief wood with the recessed sections providing detail for the image. In the top center of the block is a recessed 35.6cm wide by 37.6cm long section where a text block would go. On both the left and right of this section are 2 relief strips with 5 circles on the left and 5 circles on the right. Strips are approximately 6cm wide by 39cm long and recessed circles vary from 2-5cm in diameter. Above the recessed area is a small rectangle serving as a border measuring 34.8cm wide by 1cm long. In the bottom section of this block is a fair scene. On the left edge directly below the left edge strip is a carving of a ferris wheel measuring 17cm wide by 20cm long. Areas in and around the support structure are differentiated using linear grooves. Below the ferris wheel (following the wheels curve) is a large tent occupying an area 24cm wide by 13.5cm long at the widest and largest parts. To the right of the ferris wheelis the depiction of 3 tents/stands in an area 32.5cm wide by 21cm long-- largest measurments. Tents are carved so that as you move right the stands appear larger. In the first stand you see the outline of a man. In the second stand is a man juggling and in the foreground, overlapping the third stand is the image of a woman diving. The woman measures approximately 28.5cm long from toes to fingers and 3cm wide. Below the stands is a semi-circle design which represents a crowd and measures approximately 27.5cm wide by 9cm long. Sides: Plain wood with residual blue stain near front edges and in the wood grains. Back: Plain wood with residual blue, yellow and red stain around the edges. "BOTTOM" has been stamped in the top center in red ink.
