Description
*Picture block* Rectangular tongue and groove joined wood block. Front: stained dark blue with the top half as relief wood with a recessed design, and the bottom half is recessed with a relief border. Bottom border is 1.7cm thick and covers 48.2cm wide across the bottom and 33.1cm up the right and left sides. Inside has been recessed with a circular chisel. The top relief half covers 48.2cm wide by 32.8cm long. Recessed into this top half is a design of a woman diving in the top center covering approximately 12cm wide (at the arms) by 33cm long (feet to head). The woman is diving at a down and right diagonal. In the bottom left corner of the top half is a shore design measuring 21.5cm wide by 4.5cm long, with a thin line extending to the right corner where there is a small recessed sail boat 3cm long by 3.5cm wide. Sides: Plain wood with residual ink stains near the front of the block and in the wood grains. "#67" is written in the bottom center in pencil. Back: Residual ink stains, mostly at the outer edges and in the wood grain. Small piece of paper attached to the top half (center) about 6cm tall by 4cm wide. ***NOTE: The title given to this piece is borrowed from the Dunlop Art Gallery's exhibition catalogue "The Big Show" published in the late 1980s, which features a poster/advertisement for "A Snappy Poster for Your Water Carnival", which was created in part from a print of this block. It otherwise has no name.
