Description

*Picture/Text Block* Possibly a tongue and groove joined wood block. Stained blue with text "WALLACE BROS. SHOWS" at the top outlined in relief wood, but recessed in the letters. Letters are larger at the left and right edges and get smaller as you move towards the middle. (11cm long-5cm long--Wallace Bros.) "SHOWS" is centered underneath the first line, and the letters are smaller at the outskirts and grow larger in the middle (6.7cm long to 8.2cm long). Top section where the letters are is recessed on the left (16cm down from the top corner--21.5cm in from the top left corner). But there is a relief triangle section on the right (29cm across the top and 22cm down). Starting 16cm down from the top left corner is the beginning of a detailed fair scene covering approximately 34.7cm long by 50.5cm wide or the rest of the block. The bottom 50.5cm wide by 6.5cm long section is depicting crowds of people mostly in relief wood. Above this on the left side is the outline of a tent/carousel (?) image 13cm wide by 11cm long with a flag extending 6.5cm up. Pictured behind the tent are two tower like designs: 1)3.4cm wide by 14.2cm tall and the flag 2.5cm long. 2) 1.2cm wide by 15cm long to the right of this is a mainly relief wood ferris wheel (the main focus of the block) measuring 22.2cm long by 19.7cm wide--side view. At the center is a 6 pointed star surrounded by a support structure. To the right of the ferris wheel in the background are two smaller stands: 1)6cm to the right of the ferris wheel measuring 5.7cm wide by 4.5cm long including the flag pole. 2) 1.5cm to the right of the 1st tent--9.3cm wide by 7cm long with "MIDWAY" printed across a sign and a star above that, flag pole extends 8.5cm up from the top. Above this is an area 20.4cm wide by 15.5cm long are images of rides in the background, somewhat muddled together, and difficult to say what they are. Sides: Plain wood with residual ink near the front edges. Back: 6 strips of brown paper have been attached horizontally across the back 6.3cm long by 50.5cm wide--spaced approximately 2cm apart. 1 strip of brown paper is attached vertically down the center 6.3cm wide by 50.7cm long. "No 406" has been stamped upsidedown in purple ink in between the second and third strips of paper--counting up from the bottom. NOTE: Block 1 in a 3 block blue, red and yellow series.
