Description

*Picture Block* Rectangular tongue and groove wood block. This is the second block in a 3 block (blue, green, red) series. Front: Stained green/yellow despite saying blue on the back. Block is mostly recessed leaving relief wood as accents/design. Block has been recessed using circular headed tool. Beginning in the top right corner is a relief triangle measuring 5.2cm down the right side, 16.1cm along the top edge and 16.6cm diagonally. Moving down 12.2cm from the top right corner, is a second relief triangle measuring 13.5cm down the right side, 11cm diagonally down and left, and 5.5cm up and left to meet and form a point 4.5cm from the right edge. Carved out in the center/downward diagonal is the outline of a "D". Moving down 5.5cm begins a horizontal relief design 32.9cm wide and varying in height due to design (recessed) of what would be the bottom and 2 wheels of a car. Beginning height is 3.1cm long and narrows to 0.8cm under the car then widens to 6.8cm along the left edge (with two triangle recessions 2cm wide by 2cm to point at the top of the relief section. Moving up the left edge are 4 triangles (1cm wide by 1cm to point) spaced 0.8cm apart. 2.5cm above this is another horizontal section (14.5cm wide) of triangles approximately 1.6cm to point. When viewed together triangles form a sun-like shaped border which surrounds "2 hours" in block 2015.1.196c. 5cm below the end of the horizontal triangles, is the center point of another relief design which finishes the sun border on the left and on the right, creates the 3 windows for the car. Total design measures 13.5cm wide by 5cm long. Above the horizontal triangles is a 0.3cm gap (groove) and then a final relief design running up the left side. Section measures 20.5cm up to the top left corner, with a maximum width of 1.7cm wide at the very top, remainder of design is approximately 0.7cm wide. Stain is more vibrant on relief sections and darker in the recessed sections, except in the center of the top recessed section where plain wood is visible. Sides: Dark ink stains in the wood grain, stain residue near front edges--more noticeably on the right side. Back:Dark in stains in the wood grains--especially where relief sections from the front would lie on the back. "Blue" has been handwritten in the center. Red, blue, and yellow ink stains visible in the outer sections of the block, like fingerprints.
