Description

*Background/Text Block* Rectangular tongue and groove wood block. It is the third block in a 3 block (blue, green, red) series. Front: Stained red--block has been mostly recessed with a circular headed tool leaving relief wood for words, word outlines and accent/background sections. Beginning along the bottom is a rectangular relief section measuring 32.9cm wide by 3.1cm long. Centered 3.5cm above the relief rectangle, is a curved rectangle measuring 1.8cm long by 5.9cm wide, with "CANADIAN" carved into it. To the right of this (0.5cm) is an "L" shaped design 1.8cm long by 1cm wide (this section forms a part of a car). 2.3cm above this design, is a curved line which forms the top frame of the car measuring 9.3cm wide by 1.5cm at the longest part (right end). Two circles on either side of the car have been slightly more recessed to emphasize the tires. 2.5cm in from the right edge and 8.8cm above the bottom edge is a rectangular like shape measuring 3.5cm wide by 2.5cm long. 2.2cm up and left of this is another rectangle with a tear drop like shape measuring (diagonally down and right) 5.5cm wide by 0.7cm thick. "Canadian" has been etched in this rectangle as well. Connecting to a larger strip of wood which occupies the negative space between the car/bottom of the "DareDevils" from block 2015.1.196a, and measures 28.6cm wide by 2.6cm. Touch the left edge 2.8cm below the bottom left corner of the previous piece is relief text which reads "2Hours" 10.5cm wide by 3.5cm long. Beginning 3.5cm from the left edge and 13.4cm from the top edge is another two relief sections forming the top outline of "DareDevils" and then surround "Canadian" as well, both text is shown in 2015.1.196a. First relief section has jagged edges to form letters and measures approximately 10cm wide by 3cm long. There is a 2cm gap between the first and second sections. The second section (see picture for more detail) is approximately 16.5cm wide by 5cm long and is also jagged to surround/form letters. It then angles up to meet the right edge 4.6cm and travels up to the right edge for 10.8cm, curving around the "C". The section then widens to form a curving rectangular like shape 31.2cm wide by approximately 5-5.5cm long (depending on letter formation). Curve meets the top edge 17.5cm from the right edge. Written (recessed) inside this curving rectangle are the words "CONGRESS OF". Stain is more concentrated in the recessed area (appearing burgundy) and a brighter red on the relief sections. Sides: Residual red stain near the front edges, less so on the left edge. Otherwise sides are plain wood with dark ink stains in the wood grains. Back: "Red" is handwritten in pencil in the upper center. Very dark ink stains in the wood where they match the relief sections on the front of the block. Red ink stain smudges surround the cut sections of the block, especially down the left edge. Block is otherwise plain wood.
