Description
*Background Printing Block* Tongue and groove joined rectangular wood block. Front: Stained yellow. The majority of this block is done in relief with a few recessed areas. This block's purpose is filling in the negative space around the unidentifiable image. See the picture for better detail. Almost the entire upper left corner is recessed; it is an area of approximately 12.8cm wide by 15.0cm long. The right edge of this recessed area is straight for 11.5cm. The bottom edge is jagged and wavy. A wavy relief piece, with a flat bottom edge overlaps onto this recessed section from the right top of the straight right edge for 6.1cm. This wavy relief sections makes 3 distinct curves over to the right edge of the block 7.5cm from the top edge. All surface area above these curves is recessed. The second (middle curve touches the top edge). Everywhere else on the front of the block is relief except for one recessed area in the middle. It is difficult to see what the section is supposed to be. One distinct shape is that of a leg and a foot stretching out to the left of the rest of the shape. It is about 10cm long, but it is difficult to tell where the leg begins. The shape attached to the leg could possibly be a person dancing, or playing a sport. There is a hand reaching up above what is possibly the head, and another hand is resting at the left side. The figure is roughly 5.5cm wide in the chest area, and 3cm wide at the waist area. There is a relief shape 3cm wide by 2cm long near the bottom of the figurine shape. There is a 10.5cm wide by 6.5cm long organic recessed shape attached to the figure. It is wavy along the top and curves downwards toward the right. Then the bottom line continues in a downward angle toward the left for 8.3cm in a straight line. It then curves upward into the figurine's shape. The person's height (not including the outstretched leg shape) is 13.6cm. Sides: There are 2 labels on the left and bottom sides. They both have the previous temporary number written on them. Back: There are 4 horizontal strips of paper glued to the back that cover the left half. The previous temporary number is written on it in red marker.
