It is a rectangular wood block with a carved relief of the number "9" or "6" backwards depending on the perspective. The surface of the relief is stained dark Burgundy with small red spots and the non-relief surface is stained dark red. The surface of the relief appears to be buffed or polished. And on areas of the relief the grain and colour of the wood is evident. The old accession number is on the bottom edge in permanent marker and on a sticker. On the back the edges/sides are stained with black and red ink. There are also smudges and strokes of bright red, white, black and dark red ink.
