It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the letter "J" backwards. It is stained with dark red and black ink. The relief appears to be polished or buffed. Also the grain and colour of the wood is evident as if the ink was worn or buffed off. The back is stained with black and dark red ink. There are also drops, smudges, strokes and vertical/horizontal faded lines of ink. Materials
