Description
It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the letter "F" backwards (movable typeface). The original coat of varnish is still evident on the relief surface. The pigment on the black has naturally darkened with age and use. Is stained Burgundy but the pattern of the wood grain is still evident in some areas. The carved down portion is matte and a combination of red and dark born. The old accession number is also written in permanent maker on the bottom edge. (note: Burgundy fibres caught in a chip in the wood). The back is varnished, discoloured and marked with red, black and brown pigment.
