Description

It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the letter "M" (movable typeface). The original coat of varnish is still evident on the relief surface. The pigment has naturally darkened with age and use. Is stained Burgundy and auburn/ orange. Pattern of the wood grain is also evident. The carved down portion is matte burgundy. The old accession number is also written in permanent maker on the bottom edge. Th back is varnished and discoloured. The surface is almost entirely covered in red and black pigment.
