Description
It is a rectangular (almost square) block of wood with a carved relief of the number "1" backwards (movable typeface). The relief surface Is glossy/smooth as the original coat of varnish is still evident. The relief is burnt orange with dark scratches/ lines on the surface. There is also four patches of red pigment on the surface. The carved down portion is a matte burgundy. The left side of the relief has been slightly carved down creating a slant which appears to be roughly carved. The back is entirely covered in black, red and brown pigment that has naturally darkened with time and use. The old accession number is also written on the back in permanent marker.
