It is a rectangular block of wood with a hand carved relief of the letter "E" (movable typeface). The pigment has naturally darkened with age/use and the original coat of varnish is evident. The relief is light burnt orange, auburn and brown. The carved down portion is deep purple. The back is discoloured and is marked with faded brown, black and red pigment.
