It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the letter "D" (movable typeface). The pigment has naturally darkened with age/use and the original coat of varnish is still evident. The relief is light burnt orange, auburn and dark brown. The carved down portion is black and burgundy. The back is minorly discoloured and marked with faded red and brown pigment.
