Description

it is a rectangular block of wood with a hand carved relief of the letter "B" (movable typeface). The relief is smooth/glossy as the original coat of varnish is still evident and the pigment has naturally darkened with time and use. The relief surface is dark burgundy with strokes of black pigment. The carved down portion is a dull burgundy and brown and the carving marks are clearly evident. The back is discoloured by dirt/grime, time and marked with faded black, and red pigment.
