It is a rectangular block of wood with a hand carved relief of the letter "A" (movable typeface). The relief is smooth/glossy as the original coat of varnish is still evident and the pigment has naturally darkened with time and use. The relief is auburn and dark brown. The carved down proton is dark brown and dark brown. The carved down portion is dark brown and the carving marks are evident. The back is discoloured by time and use. It is dark brown, dark red and dark blue. 1cm chunk of wood protruding from left side. Also 0.9x2.2cm groove on the lower left side. Materials
