George Arluk

George Arluk (b. 1949 Winnipeg MB) is an Inuit sculptor who carves in steatite (soapstone), basalt, catlinite, whale bone, and stained stone. Arluk is a self-taught artist who began carving at the age of nine. He often depicts human figures, Canadian arctic animals, and traditional Indigenous spirits within the compositions of his work. His pieces are held within the collections of numerous galleries throughout Canada including the Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, Montreal QC; National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa ON; Vancouver Art Galery, Vancouver BC; the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto ON; and the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg MB.
