Joseph Amar

Joseph Amar (b.1954 Casablanca Morocco, d.2001 Toronto ON, Canada) was a Canadian painter and sculptor. After receiving the Dorothy Reid Scholarship (1974) he attended the College of Art Toronto (1974-1977) where he would later occasionally teach classes. Amar would later take his art career to New York showcasing his work locally and globally at the O.K. Harris Gallery, New York (1981); Bess Cutler Gallery, New York (1985); Nohra Haime Gallery, New York (1995); Stark Gallery, London (1991); and Lawrence Monk Gallery, New York (1990). His work is also within the collections of the Guggenheim Museum, the Carnegie Institute, and multiple celebrity’s collections including Yoko Ono, and Elton John. In 1991, Amar was in a tragic collision with a drunk driver in Hartford Connecticut. His injuries from the crash would eventually lead to his passing in 2001.
