Dik Campbell (b. 1965 St. John’s NL) is a Canadian artist whose works are primarily directed toward examining the treatment and experiences of those who are a part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. He attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design obtaining a BFA in 1988. Campbell works in various media including painting, sculpture, video, and photography. His pieces have been exhibited throughout Canada including the Anna Leonowans Gallery, Halifax NS (1988); MUN Art Gallery, St. John’s NL (1986); Gallery 101, Ottawa, ON (1992); AKA Artists’ Centre (1987, 1988, 1989, 1993, 1994) and Muttart Art Gallery, Calgary AB (1990). Some of his notable works include ‘Assume Your Position’ (1993) which was a site-specific exhibition detailing the abuse that gay men faced throughout four different locations in Saskatoon; ‘Pressing’ (1988) a video recording which unveils some of Campbell’s personal lived experiences; ‘Eight Pink Triangles’ (1992) an installation which addresses the horrific treatment of homosexual individuals who were forced to be in Nazi concentration camps. Campbell currently lives in Saskatoon.
