Hugh Alexander

Hugh Alexander (b. 1913, d. 2007) was a Weyburn SK based painter who directed his work towards rural farming scenes. Reflecting upon his own lived experience, his paintings examine small-town life during the 1920’s and 1930’s. Alexander started drawing at the age of forty and began painting as a hobby at the age of sixty. He then received formal art training taking art classes from Gerry Jesup in 1971 and John Ewart in 1973. His paintings are within the collections of the University of Saskatchewan, and the Canadian Museum of History in Quebec.
