Abraham Anghik

Abraham Anghik (b.1951 Paulatuk NT) is an Inuit contemporary sculptor. His work is primarily influenced by Inuit storytelling and legends, while also exploring the stories of other Northern cultures internationally. He attended the Native Arts Centre at the University of Alaska in 1971, later becoming a full-time artist. Anghik showcased his first solo show in 1977 at the Pollock Gallery in Toronto where he would continue to showcase his work. His sculptures have been exhibited locally and globally including the Bayard Gallery, New York NY (1980); Gallery Quan, Toronto ON (1982); Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto ON (1977); The Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnipeg MB (1978, 1989, 2002); The Alaska Shop, New York NY (1991); and Orca Aart Gallery, Chicago IL (1995). Throughout Anghik’s sculpting career he has also been tasked with creating pieces for the 2010 Winter Olympics, the backdrop for the NWT Pavilion performance stage for Expo 86, and a Holocaust Sculpture Memorial at the Holocaust Museum in Israel.
