Born to German immigrants Philip and Annie, Larrie was one of nine Maffenbeier children. Following four years in the army, Larrie met and married Lucille in 1947, and had a daughter in Mankota in 1949. In 1956, the family moved to West Flat just outside of Val Marie, where Larrie worked with the PFRA. He later drove the school bus for 16 years as well as continuing to farm. Retiring to Val Marie, Larrie’s farm was taken over by his daughter Marie in 1985. Larrie passed away in 2001.
