Trowel, Brick
Artifact
Accession Number:

Description
Painted grey-blue with pink flowers. Some writing on the handle and date August 1896 on the point.
The Knox Presbyterian Church was built in 1896. This trowel was used in the laying of the cornerstone in August of 1896 and then gifted to Mrs. J.W. Muirhead, wife of the Minister. You ask, 'Why not to the minister?' Rev. Muirhead, originally from Ontario, was the minister at the time of construction. He died in Ontario not long after so speculation is that he was too ill to attend. When Mrs. Muirhead died, her family returned the trowel to Knox.Category
