Description
A white slip from 1910. It is very detailed with intricate lace and ribbon. The purpose of the slip is to act a separator from the outer and under clothing. It would be used to make revealing clothes more modest or to add more layers to keep warm. To wear a slip one would first put it on top of their undergarments then put the outer garments overtop the slip. The slip never would show from under the outer garments. With the slip showing it gave off the same unfinished look as if the person's undergarments were peeking out. This slip was given to Mrs. E.J. Stevenson in the year 1910 as part of her trousseau. ( A trousseau is gift of household supplies, clothing and other such presents given to a bride at their wedding ).
