It is a square block of wood with a hand carved relief of the letter "R" backwards (movable typeface). The relief is smooth/glossy as the original coat of varnish is still evident and the pigment has naturally darkened with age/use. The surface is dark burgundy and black. The carving marks/dents evident on the carved down surface. The back appears to have been part of another block due to carved elements on the back. 1cm wide carved boarder along the top and right side. There is a carving in the shape of a 7. The relief/negative space is burgundy and black pigment. ~root~>
