20th century
This painting shows a man going hunting with his child, passing on the knowledge of how to hunt and eventually take on the responsibility of providing for the family. The man carries a rifle while scoping out the field, bushes, and trees for animals. Traditionally, the men and boys would hunt and gather food and supplies, while the women and girls would cook and prepare the animal meat and skins. “These are important reminders of a life that was harsh and difficult, where all had a role to fulfill. The hard work was not just for the men, but women and children too.”
