It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved plate of another type of wood attached to the surface. The words carved are "SMITH & DALE" backwards. The relief surface/negative space is brown/orange and the carved down portion is plum. The letters are evidently hand carved due to the evident carving marks. The back is almost entirely covered in glued on paper that is discoloured with dirt/grime and marked with ink.
