It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the number "6" backwards (movable typeface). The surface is glossy/smooth as the original coat of varnish is still evident on the relief surface. The relief is orange with lines of light auburn/brown. The carved down portion is a matte dark red. The back is covered in dark red, black and auburn pigment that has darkened with age and use. The old accession number is written in permanent marker on the back.
