It is a rectangular (almost square) block of wood with a carved relief of the number "7" backwards (movable typeface). The relief surface is glossy/smooth as the original coat of varnish is still evident. The relief surface is a light orange with patches/spots of dark red and lines/scratches. The carved down portion is a matte dark red with sports of red pigment. The back is entirely covered in black, red and brown pigment that has naturally darkened with age and use. The old accession number is also written on the back in permanent marker.
