It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the letter "C" (movable typeface). The pigments have darkened with age and use. The relief surface is a deep burgundy and the carved down portion is a dark red. The carving marks/dents are evident on the carved down portion. There are two large cracks are forming from the bottom up. Grooves are evident so glue is losing ability/use and it is not the wood splitting. On the back the cracks are evident and larger on the back. The surface is varnished and discoloured by dirt/time. Marked with red and black pigment. The old accession number is also written in permanent marker on the bottom edge. ~root~>
