It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the letter "Y" (movable typeface). The pigment has naturally darkened with time and use. The relief is dark auburn, Burgundy and mauve. The carved down portion is a dark purple/red with a section in the middle that is mauve. The back is discoloured with age/dirt and marked with faded brown, red and black pigment.
