It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the letter "U" (movable typeface). The pigment has naturally darkened with time and use. The relief is a dark red with areas of lighter red. The carved down portion is red and black with a layer of dust. The back is discoloured by dirt/grime and marked with faded brown, red and black pigment.
