Block, Wood

Artifact

2019.1.3d
King, Andrew
1912 – 1958
It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the number "4" backwards (movable typeface). The original coat of varnish is still slightly evident and the grain of the wood is still evident on the relief surface. The relief is a vibrant red colour and the carved down portion is a dull matte rust colour. The back is stained bright yellow with patches/marks of red ink. This block must have been part of a larger block. There is a carved rectangle at the bottom section that is 5x28cm with a 2x8 cm piece of wood attached with two small nails. The small piece of nailed on wood is stained black with red patches and the back surface is varnished. This block is similar to 2019.1.3e.
