Block, Wood

Artifact

2019.1.3e
King, Andrew
1912 – 1958
It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the number "5" backwards (movable typeface). The original coat of the varnished is still evident and the pigment has naturally darkened with time and use. The grain of the wood is still evident in some areas. The relief is a vibrant red colour with a few black marks and carved down portion is a dull matte red. The back is similar to 2019.1.3d. It is stained bright yellow with patches/marks of red pigment. This block was likely part of a larger block. There is a 4.7x29 cm rectangle in the bottom section with a 2x10 cm piece of wood that is beginning to split and is attached with small nails. The small nail don piece is stained black with red patches. The surface is also varnished.
