1912 – 1958
It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the letter "R" backwards (movable typeface). The original coat of varnish is still evident and the pigment has naturally darkened with time and use. The pattern of the wood grain is still evident. The surface is a dark burgundy but the carved down portion has more of a matte finish. Dents from the carving process is evident on the carved down portion. The old accession number is also written in permanent marker on the bottom edge. The back is discoloured with age/dirt and is almost entirely covered with marks of black and red pigment.
