It is a rectangular block of wood with a hand carved relief of the number "7" backwards (movable typeface). The original coat of varnish is still evident on the relief and the pigment has naturally darkened with time and use. The pattern of the wood grain is still evident. The relief is a vibrant red and carved down portion is a matte red but the surface is not consistently saturated. The carved down surface is also rough as distinct carving marks are evident. The back is slightly discoloured with dirt/grime and is marked with red and black ink.
