Brown Rock Core
Artifact
1996.x.92
Brown rock core, which is flat on the bottom, and uneven on the top. The sides have sharp edges all the way around from various fractures.
Cores are considered the "parent" rock used to create stone tools. The uneven texture is the result from the stone being worked at in order to break off flakes, which then later are constructed into the desirable tool. This core, in particular, appears to have been exhausted with flakes removed from both sides, some of which were quite large and resulted in the relatively flat bottom. ~root~>
