Miniature Projectile Point (1000 bp)
Artifact
2007.16.36
1000 bp
Brown projectile point, likely made of chert. The point has a slightly convex base, side notches, and a slight curve up to the tip.
This point is likely what archaeologists refer to as a "miniatures". These are points of incredibly small size possibly for children to learn how to hunt, for hunting very small game, or for other purposes. In terms of what point it actually resembles, it seems to be a Prairie Side-Notched arrowhead, which were used around 1,200 to 550 years before present (BP). ~root~>
