1879
Sachsen (Saxony) Infantry Reserve Officer M1871 Pickelhaube Helmet, Eigentums-helm (Private Purchase). Due to Kokarde (cockade) and squared front visor it was likely worn by a Generalstabs-Offizier (general staff officer; head of division-level general staff) or Generalität (general grade officers) but due to translations it is difficult to tell which one. A member of the Infanterie-Regiment (infantry regiment). Possibly sourced from the Stettin Armee-Korps depot. Spike top is detachable for the purpose of a helmet Trichter and Haarbusch (parade plume) on parade. Three pins with an eight pointed star on top, there should be four but one is missing, and perlring indicate officer rank. The helmewappen (front plate) is an 'iron cross' with a Saxony coat of arms in a laurel wreath and a crown on the top over a starburst. The voided crown, as opposed to a solid crown, indicates that this was a privately purchased helmet. Provenance indicates it was brought to Swift Current in 1919 from Germany by Lorne Howden. Use would have been between c.1871 and c.1887 due to characteristics of the item; however, this items may be a combination of parts from multiple examples.
