It is a small rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the letter "N" backwards (movable typeface). The pigment has naturally darkened with time/use and the relief surface is smooth/glossy as the original coat of varnish is still evident. The relief surface is dark red with a few black scratches. The back is almost entirely covered with a piece of glued on paper that is stained pink with marks of black and grime.
