It is a square block of wood with a hand carved relief of the letter "K" (movable typeface). The relief surface is smooth/glossy as the original coat of varnish is still evident and the pigment has naturally darkened with time with time and use. the relief is black. The carved down portion is matte black and the carving marks/dent are evident. The back appears to have been part of anther block due to the carvings on the back (two horizontal lines and the letters "Y" and "C"). The relief surface is burgundy and patches of black pigment. ~root~>
