It is a rectangular block of wood with a hand carved relief of the letter "M" (movable typeface). The pigment has naturally darkened with age/use and original coat of varnish is still evident. The relief is a combination of burgundy, black and dark blue. The carved down portion is dark blue and the carving marks are evident. The back is discoloured by dirt/grime and marked with dark blue, black and red pigment.
