It is a rectangular (almost square) block of wood with a carved relief of the number "3" (movable typeface). The relief surface is glossy/smooth as the original coat of varnish is still evident. The relief is orange with scratches/lines of black and red pigment with a patch of dark red. The carved down portion is a matte dark red. The back is black, red and brown pigment that has naturally darkened with age and use. The old accession number is also written in large letters written in permanent marker.
