It is a rectangular block of wood with a carved relief of the number "5" backwards (movable typeface). The surface is smooth/glossy as the original coat of varnish is still evident. The relief is a darker orange with patches of red and dark red pigment with dark lines/scratches. The carved down portion is a matte dark red. The back is completely covered in black, brown and red pigment which has darkened over time and use. The old accession number is also written on the back in permanent marker.
