The original coat of varnish is still evident and the pattern of the wood grain is still evident on the relief surface. The relief is red and the carved down portion is a matte rust colour. The shape of the "9" is odd by modern standards as the shape is short and wide. The dents and carving marks evident on the carved down portion. the back is covered is glued on strips of papers or masking tape. The paper of tape is marked with red and black pigment.
